Making videos
Film great videos on your phone
Film vertically in good window light, keep the phone at eye level, use the back camera when you can, and record in a quiet room. Clean audio and steady framing matter more than an expensive camera.
Light
Face a window so light falls evenly on your face. Avoid strong light behind you, which turns you into a silhouette, and overhead lights that cast shadows under your eyes.
Sound
Viewers forgive soft video before they forgive bad audio. Film in a room with curtains, a rug or a sofa, turn off fans, and keep the phone close to you.
Framing and settings
A few settings make every take easier to edit.
- Shoot vertical 9:16 with your eyes about a third from the top
- Lock focus and exposure by tapping and holding on your face
- Use the back camera for sharper footage when you can see yourself
- Leave a second of stillness before and after each line
