How to Avoid Duplicate Job Applications

The same opening may appear on an employer's site and several boards. The title or URL can differ, so a saved-link list by itself may not catch duplicates.

Compare the underlying role

Check employer, title, location, team, requisition ID if shown, and original application URL. Two listings with nearly identical descriptions may point to the same opening; two similar titles can also be distinct roles.

Keep submission evidence

Save the date, confirmation, and resume version after submitting. Before applying again, search your tracker and inbox for the employer and role. If you use more than one application service, account for submissions from each.

Handle uncertainty

When you cannot tell whether a listing is new, inspect the original employer page. If it is clearly a reopened or separate requisition, a new application may be appropriate. Avoid repeated submissions simply because a board reposted it.
