ATS Resume Basics
An applicant tracking system stores applications and helps hiring teams organize them. A readable resume and truthful, relevant language help both software and people understand your background.
Use clear structure
Label experience, education, and skills with ordinary headings. Keep employer names, job titles, and dates easy to find. Export a text-based file in a format the application accepts, then inspect the uploaded preview if one is available.
Use relevant language naturally
Name the skills and tools from the job description that you have, ideally next to an example of using them. Repeating a term many times does not replace evidence of the work.
Test the actual application
Some forms parse a resume into fields and still ask you to correct them. Review every imported field before submitting. There is no single format or score that guarantees an interview across employers.
