Resume
Should You Send a Resume as PDF or DOCX?
There is no single file format that works best for every application. Follow the employer's instructions first, then check the actual file you upload.
Follow the form's accepted formats
If an application specifies PDF or DOCX, use one of those formats. A PDF usually preserves the layout you reviewed; an editable document may be requested by a recruiter or a particular form. Do not rename a file extension to make an unsupported format appear accepted.
Check the extracted text
Open the exported file, select a few lines, and confirm that the text reads in a sensible order. After upload, inspect any preview or imported work-history fields. A visually polished file is less useful if dates, employer names, or contact details disappear in the application.
Keep a clean source copy
Save the editable resume separately from the file you submitted. Give the submitted file a clear name that identifies you and the document, without private notes or version comments. Record which version went to which role.
