What do job application statuses mean?
An application status is a label in an employer's hiring system. It usually tells you where the record sits in that system, not what decision a recruiter has made about you.
What to keep in mind
- Application received commonly means the system recorded a submission; it does not prove someone has read it.
- In process or under review can cover several internal steps. The same label may mean different things at different employers.
- Position filled or no longer accepting applications describes the role's availability. Your own application may have a separate outcome or no update at all.
What you can do
- Keep the confirmation and date in your tracker.
- Use any specific timeline the employer provided before deciding when to follow up.
- Continue applying to other suitable roles until you have a confirmed offer.
