Making videos
Talk to camera like a friend
Talk to one specific person, look at the lens rather than the screen, speak a little faster and with more energy than feels normal, and film several short takes instead of one long one.
Eight tips
Confidence on camera is a skill you build.
- Picture one friend and talk to them
- Look at the lens, not your own face
- Raise your energy slightly; the camera flattens it
- Film in short sections and join them in the edit
- Use your hands and move a little
- Smile at the start of each take
- Keep notes beside the lens, not a full script
- Rewatch, pick one thing to improve, and film again
Getting past the awkward phase
Almost everyone feels awkward for the first few videos. Practise daily for a week, even if you do not post, and it gets noticeably easier.
