Data analyst cover letter example
A data analyst letter that connects a question, analysis method, and decision made from the work.
This is a fictional illustration, not a real applicant's letter. Replace every placeholder and claim with facts you can support. Check the employer's application instructions before sending a cover letter.
Sample letter
Dear hiring team,
I am applying for the data analyst role at [Company], where the team needs to answer [specific business question]. I have answered similar questions for [type of stakeholder], usually starting from data that needed cleaning first.
When [team] needed to understand [problem], I combined [relevant data sources], checked [quality concern], and used [method or tool] to compare the available options. I presented [finding] with its limitations, and the team used it to [decision or change you can verify].
I would be glad to discuss how I would approach [Company]'s [specific analytical question]. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Make it yours
- Use the data sources and decisions most similar to those in the posting.
- State what you checked before trusting the data.
- Describe the decision your work informed without claiming causation you cannot show.
Leave out: Do not turn the letter into a list of SQL, Python, and dashboard tools without a question or decision.
