This is a fictional illustration, not a real applicant's letter. Replace every placeholder and claim with facts you can support. Check the employer's application instructions before sending a cover letter.
Sample letter
Dear hiring team,
I am applying for the UX designer role at [Company]. Much of my recent work has been on [similar task], which is close to the [specific user flow] your team is improving.
For [project], I observed [user behavior or research finding] and mapped where people lost confidence. I explored [design options], tested [prototype or flow] with [appropriate participants], and worked with engineering to address [implementation constraint]. The shipped change helped [outcome you can verify], while [remaining limitation] guided the next iteration.
I would be glad to walk through the decisions in my portfolio and hear more about the problems your design team is working on. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
Make it yours
- Link to a case study that shows the same kind of problem.
- Explain what research changed in your design, not only the final screens.
- Mention accessibility or responsive constraints only when your example actually addressed them.
Leave out: Do not describe a visual redesign as a proven usability improvement without user or outcome evidence.
