Sample letter

Dear hiring team,

I am applying for the registered nurse position in [unit] at [Organization]. I have worked in [actual clinical setting] for [time period], with a patient population similar to the one your posting describes.

In [setting], I cared for patients with [relevant needs] while coordinating with [care team]. For example, when [general clinical situation], I followed the applicable protocol, communicated changes promptly, and documented the handoff so the next clinician had the information needed to continue care.

I would welcome a conversation about the unit's orientation, patient population, and care priorities. Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
