Project manager cover letter example

A project manager letter showing a delivery risk, the coordination response, and a verified outcome.

This is a fictional illustration, not a real applicant's letter. Replace every placeholder and claim with facts you can support. Check the employer's application instructions before sending a cover letter.

Sample letter

Dear hiring team,

I am applying for the project manager role at [Company]. I have run [kind of project] across [number] teams with tight dependencies, which sounds close to the work in your posting.

During [project], [dependency or risk] threatened [milestone]. I made the tradeoffs visible to [stakeholders], updated the plan with [owners], and set a cadence for resolving blockers. The team delivered [scope or outcome you can verify], and we documented [lesson or remaining issue] for the next phase.

I would be glad to discuss how I manage delivery risk and stakeholder communication for projects like yours. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Make it yours

  • Match the example to the employer's project size and delivery method.
  • Name a real risk and how you escalated or resolved it.
  • Make the team's delivery outcome distinct from your coordination role.

Leave out: Do not substitute a list of project management software for evidence that you managed a difficult dependency.
