Describe a time you worked with a team
Show your contribution, how you handled coordination, and the team's outcome.
The sample below is fictional. Replace its placeholders and claims with facts you can support; do not paste it unchanged into an application.
What the question asks
Employers may phrase it as: Tell us about a time you worked with others to achieve a goal.
Describe the shared goal, your specific responsibility, one coordination challenge, and the result. Show how you listened or adjusted when another person's input mattered.
Example answer
Our team was responsible for [shared goal]. I owned [specific part] and coordinated with [partner] when [dependency] changed. After hearing [relevant concern], I adjusted [your approach]. We completed [outcome], and the handoff worked because [concrete collaboration detail].
Why this structure works: It explains how you participated in a team rather than using the word 'collaborative' as a substitute for evidence.
Make it your own
- State what you owned and what others owned.
- Include a real moment when communication changed the work.
- Choose a team outcome relevant to the role's collaboration pattern.
Avoid: Avoid making the story entirely about your individual output when the question asks how you worked with others.
