Why do you want to work here?

Build an answer that connects a real company detail, the work in the role, and your own experience.

The sample below is fictional. Replace its placeholders and claims with facts you can support; do not paste it unchanged into an application.

What the question asks

Employers may phrase it as: Why do you want to work at our company?

Choose one verifiable detail about the employer, one responsibility from the posting, and one example from your background that connects the two. Explain the connection in your own words.

Example answer

I have followed [Company]'s work on [specific product or service], especially [specific detail]. The [role] posting emphasizes [responsibility], which is the work I did when I [real example]. I would like to do that work on [specific team goal].

Why this structure works: It gives the employer a concrete reason for your interest and evidence that you understand the work. The employer detail should come from a current, reliable source, not a guess about its culture.

Make it your own

  • Replace the company detail with something you can confirm from its site or the job posting.
  • Choose a responsibility you want to do and have evidence for.
  • Keep the answer specific enough that it would not fit every employer.

Avoid: Avoid claiming to admire a mission you have not researched or repeating the company's slogan without explaining your connection to the role.
