Describe a challenge you overcame
Use a specific obstacle to show how you made a decision and what happened next.
The sample below is fictional. Replace its placeholders and claims with facts you can support; do not paste it unchanged into an application.
What the question asks
Employers may phrase it as: Tell us about a challenge you faced at work and how you handled it.
Choose a challenge with enough detail to show judgment. State the constraint, describe your response, and finish with the outcome and what you learned.
Example answer
During [project], [specific obstacle] put [goal] at risk. I first [fact-finding or communication step], then [action you took] with [relevant partners]. We [outcome], and I changed [process or habit] afterward to reduce the chance of the same issue recurring.
Why this structure works: The response shows your process under a real constraint rather than claiming you are simply resilient or a problem solver.
Make it your own
- Pick a situation you can discuss without exposing confidential details.
- Make your decision and collaboration visible.
- State an honest outcome even if the result was imperfect.
Avoid: Avoid portraying a routine task as a crisis or blaming colleagues for an obstacle you shared responsibility for.
